December 4, 2003 - The following was received from Claudia Capos. Hi, Jeff - Sad to report that one of our favorite swans is dead. It's body is lying beside Causeway Drive. In memory, here is a poem, "Last Swan Song," for the Poet's Corner on our Woodland Lake Web site. See what you think. Claudia Last Swan Song
Oh, gentle swan, we knew you well. From dusk to dawn, you rode the swell And lent such beauty to our lake With arching neck and silvery wake.
We fed you bread by day's first light And 'spied your phantom shape at night. From dock to dock, we watched you glide. A welcome sight, our white-plumed pride.
But, sadly, now we bid good-bye. On Causeway Drive, so still you lie. Your plumage ruffled, neck stretched long, Eyes shut in sleep ¾ your last swan song.
